Mercurial Arts has three volunteer placements for people to join our Dance and Science project called the Chaotic Liquid Network. Taking place in Birmingham.

Shadow Artist Placements (Voluntary)

Digital Artist. Dance Artist. Arts Marketing

The Chaotic Liquid Network is a new dance and science project. A collaboration between Mercurial Arts and the University of Birmingham Medical School, exploring where do ideas come from in our body from a neuroscience perspective?

Engaging young people in dance and science, we will create a new youth performance and interactive installation at Oasis Academy Hobmoor Primary School and Community Centre.

As a part of the project we are establishing three voluntary placements to shadow artistic team during the project a digital artist, dance artist and arts marketing for the next generation of artists aged 18-25 years old.

You will gain

  • experience in applying your art-form to community settings
  • shadow the artistic team through the project
  • contribute to the educational and artistic process with the children

 

You will Need

  • To undergo a DBS Check (enhanced CRB disclosure),
  • Be starting your career as an artist in dance, digital arts or arts marketing (depending on role applied for)
  • Keen to work with children and young people
  • Ideally be resident or work in Birmingham, Yardley
  • Ideally be available for all the dates of the project

 

The project takes place during the summer term from 5th May 2014, day-time.

Dates are being finalised so subject to change. Current schedule is

  • 6 May 2014 Project planning meeting
  • 7 May 2014 Trip & Development Day with school to University of Birmingham
  • 21 May 2014 research and development day with scientists at primary school
  • w/c 2 June 2014         artist planning day
  • 9 June 2014 creation day with children and artists at primary school
  • 16 June 2014 creation day with children and  artists at primary school
  • 23 June 2014 creation day with children and  artists at primary school
  • 25 June 2014 creation day with children and  artists at primary school
  • 27 June 2014 creation day with children and  artists at primary school
  • 1- 3 July 2014, rehearsals, get in.
  • Launch Performances 4 July
  • Installation 5/6 July 2014

These are voluntary opportunities, Mercurial Arts charity is able to offer a fixed contribution towards your travel expenses.
